Future Leaders in Neurosurgery Symposium for Underrepresented Students (FLNSUS)

The Future Leaders in Neurosurgery Symposium for Underrepresented Students (FLNSUS) is a unique opportunity by Duke University School of Medicine for undergraduate students to get exposure to the incredible field of neurosurgery.

As a participant, you will have access to extraordinary neurosurgery cases, mentorship from faculty, residents, and medical students, and learn about groundbreaking research from renowned leaders in neurosurgery and the neurosciences.

For US citizens or US residents. Students must be rising college freshmen or sophomores, accepted into an accredited college program in neuroscience, and interested in pursuing a PhD or MD/PhD in the neuroscience field. Students should demonstrate strong dedication and alignment with program values.

The UCLA-HBCU Neuroscience Pathways program is an eight-week summer enrichment program for undergraduate students who attend historically black colleges and universities (HBCUs) in the United States. Due January 19, 2024.

For students majoring in natural sciences with a minimum GPA of 3.0. Applicants are required to submit an academic transcript, a personal statement, 2 letters of recommendation from the science faculty, and a few others. Click here for more details.

The Summer Internship Program (SIP) provides experience in biomedical and/or public health research to current undergraduate students from all backgrounds. The program provides research exposure for those interested in potential careers in science, medicine, and public health. Due February 1, 2024.

The UCLA Neuroscience Scholars program is a 10-week intensive summer research training experience for exceptional sophomore and junior undergraduates that are committed to pursuing a graduate degree in neuroscience. Neuroscience Scholars will be paired with a UCLA faculty mentor based on their research interests and will get hands-on discovery research experience. Due February 1, 2024.

For sophomores and juniors majoring in neurobiology-related fields and enrolled in accredited universities in the US. For students enrolled in Bachelors' program and interested in research and pursuing a PhD or MD/PhD in a neuroscience-related field. Due February 2, 2024.

A complete application contains 2 letters of recommendation, transcripts for each post-secondary institution you have attended (must include Fall '23 grades), and a personal statement outlining your research experience, what makes you an outstanding candidate for the program and how participation will assist your career goals. The primary objective of this REU site is to include students who have had more limited access to research opportunities and enhance undergraduates’ future applications to graduate school in psychology or a related field. Due February 27, 2024.

For US citizens or permanent residents enrolled in a baccalaureate or associate degree program as full-time undergraduate students. The Karen M. Gil Internship Program offers UNC undergraduate Psychology and Neuroscience majors an opportunity to deepen their understanding of psychology and develop professional skills. The Gil Internship Program places students at a worksite in the Triangle area, offers a monthly stipend, and a 3-hour course credit towards the Psychology or Neuroscience major Due October 27, 2023.

The Summer Undergraduate Research Training (SMART) Program provides frontier-level, biomedical summer research projects for undergraduates in a supportive environment with supplemental educational activities. Due January 15, 2024.

Students from all science and math majors and even non-science majors with appropriate backgrounds and interests are welcomed. Projects span the spectrum of biomedical science, including projects in bioengineering and computational biology. Applicants must submit a transcript, a resume/CV, and letters of recommendation. This is a 10-week paid summer research internship opportunity for undergraduate students interested in collaborative cross-discipline research implementing real-world applications. Due January 15, 2024.

The Duke University Summer Research Opportunity Program (SROP) is a 10-week training program designed to give motivated undergraduate students hands-on experience in graduate-level biomedical research. For motivated undergraduate students looking to gain hands-on experience in graduate-level biomedical research. Due February 9, 2024.

This 10-week program will allow students to develop a deeper understanding of the pace, demands, and thrill of scientific research through independent projects, guided by faculty mentors. Research areas include: microbiology, molecular biology, cell biology, developmental biology, evolutionary biology, genetics, neurobiology, invertebrate/vertebrate physiology, and ecology. Applicants should have completed their sophomore or junior year by the start of the program with a minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA. Students who graduate before December 2024 are not eligible. For full-time undergraduates majoring enrolled in a US college. Students must be current sophomores, juniors, or non-graduating seniors and STEM majors. They must show demonstrated interest in basic research and in a career in the sciences and must have prior research experience. Due January 30, 2024.

PNI's Summer Internship Program (SIP) is for highly motivated undergraduates who are interested in pursuing a graduate degree in neuroscience or a related field. PNI provides education and hands-on research experience for interns to collaborate closely with students and faculty at PNI on original research projects and gain invaluable first-hand experience of what it is like to be a neuroscientist. In the Summer Research Opportunities Program (SROP) students are paired with renowned faculty mentors, providing the opportunity to assist in cutting-edge research. This program is not open to graduate students, but to university undergraduate students and high School students that are 18 years of age or older by the first day of the program.
